Introduction
Welcome to my website. My name is Lucy Cooke, and this is a site about me, as an artist and a scholar. I hope to eventually expand this demo site into a portfolio of my scholastic and personal works that I can use as my professional website. For now, you will find works from my junior and senior years of college at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), as well as works I have done in recent years.
Before I get into these samples of my work, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I’m employed primarily as forest or park service personnel. I’ve been doing this since my graduation in 2015. I’m also taking classes at Lindenwood University as a Masters Student in Art and Design. I hope to gain employment as a Visual Information Specialist within an environmental branch of the government. Creating visual information such as brochures, signage, and newspapers, as well as other evolving media.
Artist Statement
Nature is a huge part of what influences me as an artist. In my employment with the NPS and USDA, I get to serve nature through being a part of an organization that protects open, natural spaces. In my art I try to do the same. Whether it’s through landscape paintings or geometric designs, I serve nature in my art by representing her throughout my creative outlets. For my capstone project I created a 7′ by 14′ corner mural and sculpture exhibition featuring a landscape of Yosemite National Park entitled Don’t Take Granite for Granted
that encouraged environmental stewardship. During my internship I worked with the Los Gatos history Museum on the Evolution of Green
a history of environmental stewardship of the area. For my graduate writing project (in the regional art history class) I chose the topic of Plein Air painters and how they loved the outdoors. Nature is found all throughout my artistic and scholastic pursuits.
